Television & Computer Monitor Recycling

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

As of June 1, 2026, there will now be a $5 per unit charge assessed for EACH television that’s dropped off at our facility.
This fee applies to televisions ONLY, regardless of operational condition… All other equipment will remain to be accepted at no charge.

Do you guys recycle TVs and computer monitors?

This is one of the most common questions that we get asked over the phone. The short answer is: Yes, we do… but there is a caveat… Because of the negative recovery value of televisions these days, we must charge a nominal fee of $5 per unit to offset the cost. Moving forward, this $5 fee applies to ANY and ALL televisions, regardless of age, style, condition, or operational status.

Older style televisions and monitors are heavier, and much thicker because of the space the CRT takes up inside the unit. Most people do not realize that inside of clunky CRT, there’s a tube that contains lead, mercury, and many other toxins that need to be handled properly. Average sized CRT television and computer monitors contain around 4 to 8 pounds of lead. In addition, the inside of the tubes are coated with a toxic phosphorus dust. These components require special handling, are costly to recycle properly… and not to mention, illegal to dispose of in the landfill!

Newer style monitors and televisions are thin, and generally lighter and contain much less precious metals. Modern televisions are made of specialized glass, liquid crystals or organic compounds, thin plastic films, and metals. These materials are layered together to create screens that are as thin as paper. The body is then typically enclosed in plastic and supported with a metal back-plane. Over the years, televisions have become lighter, cheaper, and the recovery value on these newer televisions continues to drop into negative values. As such, we are now requiring a $5 charge with ANY televisions that are dropped off at our facility for recycling.
